Description
In this painting, Laxmi is in a field of flowers trumpeting to her two best friends: I'm over here! This painting perfectly captures our rescued elephant Laxmi! She is definitely the spokesperson for her little herd of Bijli and Chanchal, fondly known as The Munchkins of Wildlife SOS. With her short and pudgy stature and squishy eyes, Laxmi has been winning hearts since the day she arrived at the Elephant Conservation and Care Center.
Laxmi's rescue was a unique one. She was being used as a begging elephant at a temple, and was only fed what the temple visitors would give her, which were sweets and street food. As a result, Laxmi was morbidly obese! She couldn't walk the ramp of the rescue truck, so we had to use a crane to lift her.
Diet and exercise at the rescue has made a tremendous impact. She's still a little chubby, so we encourage her to go on long walks, which she likes to do with The Munchkins. And if they are separated, she will trumpet out "I'm Over Here!"
Size: Original watercolor in 8 x 10 inch mat.
About the Artist: Belinda Stewart lives in St. Augustine, Florida. She works in all mediums but favors watercolors. She studied in private classes with famed watercolorist Mun Quan and art classes at Jacksonville University. All her watercolors are painted on professional Arches watercolor paper with Windsor Newton paints.
From the Artist: "Wildlife SOS has captured my heart with their ongoing love and care for all the animals retiring at their sanctuaries. From freeing Raju from chains and the legal battles to rescue sweet Mohan, it is an ongoing endeavor to save as many as possible. Since being retired, it has been pure joy seeing a photo posted of an elephant, bear or leopard and setting it aside to become inspiration for my watercolors and acrylics."
