Description
Ridge Syrah 2016
Tasting note - Black berry, pepper, mint and floral notes on nose. Full bodied with dark layered fruit, well coated tannins and a long minerally finish.
Mild spring weather opened the growing season. The syrah and grenache vines set a balanced crop, but we decided to thin the mataro at veraison to gain intensity. Syrah contributes structure; grenache from 60-year-old vines adds floral notes and mataro brings spice and raspberry fruit to the finish. This appealing syrah based wine will be best over the next four to five years.
Ridge Zinfandel 2018
Tasting note - Jammy raspberry nose with vanilla. Plum and black olive on the palate, round tannins and lingering finish.
The crop at this hillside vineyard ripened slowly and evenly throughout August. Each of the eight parcels was picked at optimum maturity in mid-September. We included five of the eight to make a rich, intense Boatman Zinfandel. Twelve months aging in American oak adds spice and complements the wine’s abundant red fruit. Enjoyable now, this sumptuous zinfandel will evolve over a seven-to-eight year period.
