Description

These 2 wonderful First Day Covers celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Seeing Eye. On the day a stamp is issued, it is only available where it is issued.  The stamp is applied or franked on an envelope and the post office certifies this by stamping First Day of Issue across the bottom of the stamp as a cancellation mark.  There is also a postmark indicating the city and date where the stamp was issued: Morristown NJ 07960, Jun 15 1979. A $0.15 stamp shows a walking man's hand holding his German Shepherd’s harness with the words Seeing For Me underneath.

The first envelope has an alert German Shepherd head superimposed over an eyeball and the words Seeing for me in Braille above the eye. Underneath is written 50th Anniversary of the First Seeing Eye Dog School in America

The second envelope has Buddy 1, First Lady of the Seeing Eye and her picture printed along with Commemorating the 50th Anniversary, Seeing Eye Dogs 1929-1979. Below Buddy is printed As surely as those pioneers who discovered lands and ideas for the world, Buddy 1 rediscovered the world for blind people. ~Morris Frank. The envelope was Authorized by The Seeing Eye, Inc. and The Jockey Hollow Stamp club, Morristown NJ.
