Uniforms worn by the Zouaves, teh French-speaking infantry unit from Afric, and teh Dragoons, cavalry soldiers on foot or horseback, give name to this scarf.  The artist, Virginie Jamin, was inspired by the military attire depicted in teh pages of teh 19th-century album conserved in teh Emile Hermes collection.  Decorated with braids and silk embroidery, the unifrms seemed to come alive in a majestic dance, as if inhabited by their former wearers.
