Artist:  Kristy Wygmams CO

Kristy Wygmans lives in Fort Collins, CO, where she brushed the ashes from the Cameron Peak fire off her tavern patio regularly and watched the sky turn shades of orange she had never seen before. “What Remains” was inspired by the poem Miss Rosie, by Lucille Clifton in the Maya Angelou book, Even the Stars Look Lonesome, and the artist Fiona Dempster from Australia, where devastating fires also raged. The wildfire ashes from the Cameron Peak fire were rubbed into the paper and methodically burnt. Through this destruction, what remains is the creation of a different poem, encapsulating a summer of watching this fire, waiting, and hoping.
