Description

Acrylic and homemade tempera on canvas, 20 x 10 inches

Artist: Kathryn Chew CO

This piece was inspired by the Rocky Mountains, which is home to both fire and ice. I used the charcoal from the wildfire to create a homemade tempera paint that was used as the base for the sky. I decided to not grind the charcoal too finely because I wanted the little bits of charcoal to be visible in the night sky and provide texture to the piece. The rest of the art is done with acrylic paint, with the white pieces highlighting the snowcapped mountains we often see in the Rockies.
