On September 21st, 2006, David Ortiz became the first Red Sox player to hit more than 50 home runs in a single season. In fact, on that particular night, Ortiz hit two home runs - his 51st and 52nd of the season. He would end the 2006 season with 54 home runs which to this day, is still a Red Sox single season record.
This bat was engraved at Fenway Park on this night of September 21, 2006. On September 30th, it was signed, in person, by David Ortiz with the "Big Papi" inscription. It comes with a hologram on the bat and a Certificate of Authenticity from BC Sports for the autograph. It is in a protective collector's case to preserve the autograph and inscription.
