Simon Day Jewelry: Dharma Wheel Pendant in Sterling Silver

Item Number: 349
Time Left: CLOSED

Description
Handmade in Simon Day's workshop in London, this dharma wheel, or dharmachakra in Sanskrit, is one of the oldest symbols of Buddhism. It is also one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism.
A dharma wheel is made up of three main parts - the hub, the rim, and the spokes. The wheel has vast and profound meaning, here then is a very brief guide to the wheel's symbolism:
- The circle - represents the perfection of the dharma, the Buddha's teaching.
- The rim - represents meditative concentration and mindfulness.
- The hub - represents moral discipline. The three swirls at the centre of the hub represent the Three Jewels--Buddha, dharma, sangha.
Simon Day was born and educated in London where he received traditional training in Jewellery and Silversmithing. He has over 30 years of experience working in all areas of the Jewellery trade as both a maker and designer. Simon says, "I make all my jewelry to the highest possible quality so that it will remain beautiful for a very long time."
