This original acrylic on canvas entitled "metta study, blue" is from the brush and studio of artist Karen Zilly. The sketch style of this painting reveals an energizing variety of tones and movement set against a turquoise blue background. 

Ms. Zilly says,

I enjoy blending a natural, coastal inspiration with the influences of mindful living here in Southern California.

Living in New York City's East Village as a painter, graphic designer, and illustrator was a formative time in my life; it provided influences from around the world, and brought me to the heart of who I am as an artist.

The physicality of the painting process becomes meditative; preparing the surface, finding a way through the vigorous layering, and then working it into a thoughtful moment to be discovered through the viewer's introspection.

Over the years, clients have found my work through galleries, industry events, Dwell Magazine, Architectural Digest, and other fine industry publications. Notable projects include the juried MADE section in the Architectural Digest Home Design Show, a panoramic custom painting for Blesso Properties in NYC which was featured in the NY Times, a commission for Dwell Magazine's Harlem House in NYC, and small works included in a bedroom makeover by Thom Filicia for InStyle Magazine.
