Description

At PS 139 it’s fundamental for our students to engage and explore the natural world. Our school garden is a place that students, teachers, and families alike are welcome to experience this world through gardening activities, art, literature, and science. Our Global Garden grows vegetables and herbs from the countries of our students and is a place for learning about healthy eating habits. Our garden is a registered Grow to Learn NYC garden and we participate in the NYC Garden to Café program; a day of harvest celebration and of tasting fresh, healthy samples in our cafeteria for all students.

A Place for Hands-on Learning

The schools enclosed garden along Cortelyou Road and Rugby Road has raised planters for growing edibles, a butterfly garden/pollinator habitat, beds for Science Club experiments, a Dig Pit, wildflower and grass gardens, and an outdoor classroom. The Garden is not just a place for gardening, but can serve as an inspiration in so many fields that our students are learning.
