BIO
Suki Fredericks is a photographer, paintings conservator, and organic farmer in Leicester, Vermont. She first studied photography at Colorado College in the early 70’s, took numerous workshops there with visiting photographers, and worked with Time-Life photojournalist Gjon Mili in New York City. In the mid-70’s, she worked on the Harry Callahan and Paul Strand archives at the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona, while doing her own photography within the larger photo community of Tucson. She has been a painting conservator by profession since 1977, using photography for conservation documentation purposes. In 2003, she edited a photographic monograph of the lifetime work of her father, sculptor Marshall Fredericks.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I like to capture found arrangements of people, objects, and places that appeal to my fascination with light and color and touch on unexpected relationships and juxtapositions. Since my move to Vermont in 1986, one of my on-going projects has been images taken on our farm. I use a Fuji x70, Canon S120 P&S, and iphone 8 for digital images and in recent years, I’ve been rediscovering the qualities of my beloved, old Rolleiflex 3.5.
