Hexagenia limbata is one of the first pieces in my Climate Change Series. The body of work features creatures from around the globe which are being negatively affected by our warming planet. The Giant Mayfly (Hexagenia limbata), with it’s recent sharp decline, directly impacts the health of fish and bird populations globally. My art is meant to not only bring awareness to this important species and the vital role it plays in regional food webs, but to bring emphasis to it’s stunning beauty and energy it generates in surrounding ecosystems. A portion of the winning bid will support conservation efforts.
