Use at the Berkeley or San Francisco stores to get your hands on these loaves of pure bready-bliss! Acme isn’t “just” great bread, they also are great business partners. In 1999, they switched to 100% organic flour and use organic California olive oil, organic raisins, pumpkin seeds and flax seeds, as well as organic California sweet cream butter. Their Berkeley bakery is covered with photovoltaic panels which generates much of their electricity and they fuel all their diesel trucks (and diesel generators) with "renewable diesel". They make an effort to donate all leftover bread to charitable organizations, schools, and non-profits, with the remainder going into organic livestock feed. And finally, to minimize paper waste, they offer a five-cent-per-loaf discount if you forgo all packaging on bread purchased in the shops.
