Description

This 8-hour tour in Anquilla, British West Indies. “Tranquility Wrapped in Blue” is the tag line long attributed to Anguilla, an island in the British West Indies. This 35 square mile British Overseas Dependent Territory is the northern-most island of the Lesser Antilles chain. It prides itself on being a playground to the stars, where private jets and yachts sometimes seem more abundant than vehicles. Anguilla boasts 33 pristine sparkling white sand beaches and some of the finest cuisine in the Caribbean.

This tour package includes: Use of our binoculars, bird guides and bottled water throughout.  We appreciate guests who bring their own reusable water bottles to help reduce trash on our island.  A morning snack and lunch is included and will be served aboard the boat.

Also included is a copy of the Nature Explorers Anguilla Wild Side Guide.  The easy to use book authored by your tour guide, Jackie Cestero, highlights over 100 species of Anguilla's amazing birds.  Record all the species you see as you tour.

Guests receive a selection of photos taken during the excursion via email post tour.  Best time to visit is late May through mid July

 Description:

The Anguilla Seabird Safari departs from the Sandy Ground boat dock at 7:00 am in the morning and heads to the offshore cays of Dog Island and Prickly Pear. It is not uncommon to sea endangered Sea Turtles and Dolphins as they frolic alongside the boat during the 35 minute ride.

The first stop is Dog Island - one of the premier sea birding sites in the Caribbean.  A successful island restoration to eliminate Black Rats in 2011/12, has only enhanced its importance.  A number of species of birds nest here, including Magnificent Frigatebirds that are present year-round. During the summer months, it is estimated that 130,000 pairs of Sooty Terns nest on this rocky outcropping along with a number of other species.  Weather permitting, the boat will land and guests will participate in an approximately 3.5 hour hike to visit the seabird colonies. If it is not safe to land, the boat will circumnavigate the island where guests will view the birds from the sea.

From there the tour proceeds to nearby Prickly Pear East & West.  Lucky guests will see Masked Boobies and Brown Pelicans nesting along the cliffs of Prickly Pear West.

Guests depart the boat at Prickly Pear East and take a short hike in search of nesting Brown Boobies, Laughing Gulls and Red-billed Tropicbirds, to name a few.  Guests can visit the Prickly Pear Bar where a flock of adorable Bananaquits are happy to eat sugar out of your hand.  Keep an eye out for the elusive Lesser Antillean Iguana.

The final leg of the excursion is a stop in Little Bay Marine park, for a chance to snorkel with colorful reef fish as well as Green and Hawksbill turtles.

The expiration for this is July 31, 2022. The borders will open fully October 2021 to fully vaccinated visitors.
