Description
Portrait of Louis Marchand, engraved by Ch. Dupuis, based on a painting by Robert. Original 18th-century copperplate engraving of the French organist, harpsichordist and composer. To quote Wikipedia, "Marchand was a child prodigy and became one of the great French keyboard virtuosos of his era. He had an arrogant and violent temperament, and his life was filled with scandals that were widely discussed during his lifetime. He is probably most famous today because of a story of his fleeing the evening before a scheduled harpsichord contest with J.S. Bach, out of fear of being defeated."
Image size: 4½" x 6", framed in an 8½" x 11" simple unstained wood frame using acid-free materials.
