Description

The New York Times recently printed an article about the installation of Diego Rivera’s monumental 74 foot by 22 foot mural "Pan American Unity" at SFMOMA and the painstaking process of moving it across San Francisco. It will be on display from June 28, 2021 until sometime in 2023 in conjunction with the exhibition "Diego Rivera's America" which is scheduled to open in 2022.

Founded in 2002, Cultural Heritage Imaging is a San Francisco-based nonprofit that has collaborated on remarkable projects with large and small institutions around the world. The team has been working with the mural’s stewards since 2011. Their efforts have yielded extremely high-resolution images and 3D models of the fresco before and after the SFMOMA conservation team worked on it last year. The data will also provide a useful baseline for understanding how well it has survived its removal from City College, transit across town, and reinstallation at SFMOMA.

Attention art buffs and digital photography nerds ...

To benefit KVFD, we are thrilled to be able to offer a unique opportunity for a group of 4 people to join Carla Schroer, Cultural Heritage Imaging's Founder and Director, as she gives you and your guests a private overview of the mural and some of the fascinating stories about its past and future. Carla is also an expert on Reflectance Transformation Imaging and Photogrammetry. In addition, you will receive 4 unrestricted guest passes to SFMOMA. (Adult tickets are normally $25 each.)

The visit will be on a mutually-agreed upon date in the next year. Carla Schroer can be contacted at: carla@c-h-i.org. The mural is located in a public area so you do not need to use the SFMOMA passes unless you also wish to visit other exhibits in the museum.
