Description
George Park , a native of Scotland, immigrated to the United States in 1919. He was a skilled cabinet maker employed as part of the Civilian Workforce at the Washington Navy Yard.
George made the two-story dollhouse as a Christmas present for his one-year-old daughter, Anna Margaret, in 1927. The dollhouse was a source of fun and entertainment throughout the year but played a key role every Christmas when it was decorated with small Christmas lights (note the cup hooks in the ceiling), a Christmas tree, and tiny wrapped presents. Traces of man-made snow can still be seen on the roof.
Special care was taken in the making of the brick chimney (note the drawn brick) and the hand-painted fireplace in the living room (lower left interior wall). These were key in the telling of Santa Claus coming down the chimney on Christmas Eve.
By today’s standards, the Dollhouse is very modest but has stood the test of time and has a rich history.
Anna married, raised a family, and relocated to Vermont. She was an animal lover and devoted member of the Rutland County Humane Society. At her request, The Dollhouse has been donated to RCHS to be auctioned/sold to support their mission.
This dollhouse measures 28" Tall x 18" Wide and 25" Long.
