Description

BIRD & BECKETT (B&B), “San Francisco's southernmost literary outpost & jazz joint” has donated 2 tickets to a performance as well as gift certificates valued at $40 for the bookstore.  Both a bookstore and jazz joint, their events are put on under the umbrella of the nonprofit Bird & Beckett Cultural Legacy Project that is "charged with the mission to present, document and archive the creative work of significant living writers and musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area, for a neighborhood audience and future generations."  B&B is located in SF’s Glen Park neighborhood and the bookstore is open to walk-in trade and browsing Tuesday to Sunday noon to six.

Performances include:

·       “jazz club” is what we call our weekly Saturday nights, when we douse the store lights so you can focus on the work of the best jazz talent the Bay Area has to offer, showcasing the musicians you want to hear– whether you know it or not!

·       “jazz in the bookshop”  Our weekly Friday "jazz in the bookshop" series is the cornerstone of our live music programming. We’ve never skipped a Friday since the series began in October of 2002.  Jazz mostly in a bebop/straight-ahead mode by consummate long-time professionals and the best young players on the local scene.

·       “which way west?”  Our Sunday concert series features a number of cultures and musical disciplines that have been richly represented over the past decade, often by musicians who call the Bay Area their home, carrying with them musical traditions from the places where they were born, grew up and came of age.

·       “canyon moonlight music” This concert series, taking place on occasional Thursdays and Sundays, allows a little room in our calendar to present music of various types - from country to cabaret to classical, to events sui generis, like the classic "Beat Clown Poetry Happening."

·       “poets!”  On the first and third Monday of each month, Jerry Ferraz hosts a poetry reading that showcases local legends, poets passing through and folks from around the Bay -- typically two featured poets followed by an open mic.

·       “walker talks” The last Sunday of every month (except the summer months and December), Walker Brents III holds his audience spellbound with his wide-ranging investigations into topics literary, mythological and otherwise.
