Artist: Russell Turnage

Russ began his ceramic work at Mountain Empire College in Virginia, and earned his BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 1977. He has been a full time, self supporting potter and artist for over 40 years. His studio and showroom are located at his island home in Lanexa, Virginia.

Russ has a lifelong love of the Chesapeake Bay and the local coastal environment, which have provided inspiration for his current body of work. Wheel-thrown porcelain vessels are embellished with hand carved imagery of fish, fossils, turtles and marine flora. Pieces are high fired in a gas kiln, and are both decorative and functional.

Russ has won numerous awards for his hand-crafted pottery at juried art shows and exhibitions. He shows at Central East Coast events and art fairs, as well as maintaining his home showroom. Visitors are welcome to the studio and showroom by appointment.
