"Before beginning my heart, I asked several dozen people, both locals and visitors, what Carmel means to them. I handwrote their replies all over the heart as a base of community, love, and inspiration. Then I painted over the words, preserving them under an abstrace layered patchwork of joy."
NICOLE CROMWELL began painting several years ago as a way to balance the stresses of her career as a critical care nurse. Her landscapes and abstract seascapes often have poetry or other inspirational quotes handwritten on the raw canvas. Knowing that these underlie the many layers of color - whether soothing, vibrant, serene or joyful - seems to resonate with Cromwell's collectors. She believes these "invisible glimpses" into her passion for healing, and her own healing process, imbue her paintings with a sense of solace and hope. Her gratitude and appreciation for the beauty of the Monterey Bay gently wash over her work.

Shipment of hearts: Leadership Carmel is willing to facilitate shipping of Heart, with the winning bidder assuming all responsibility and all costs for packing and shipping, being paid in advance. Agreement must be made with Leadership Carmel to handle shipping arrangements in advance of the 8/30/21 deadline for pick up. The heart with no base weighs 40 lbs., is 10" thick (at widest point of heart) x 52"wide (at widest portion of heart) x 60" tall (Base to top of heart).
Base info: Each heart is built on a integral tube steel stand (2"dia x visible 6") and plate (1/4" thick x 12"x12"). For the art display in Carmel, the heart on stand is sitting inside of and anchored to a steel box (24"x24") with 8-Travertine bricks (6"x12"x2") covering the base plate. The steel box and travertine bricks are not included in the auction price. The steel base box, anchoring hardware and Travertine bricks may be purchased separately by arrangement with Leadership Carmel and would increase shipping weight by 165lbs. Please let Leadership know if you wish to purchase base prior to picking up heart.
