Description

Robert "Uncle Bob" Lindsey was born in Hilo and raised here in Waimea, which he describes as "a picturesque cattle town nestled at the foothills of the Kohala Mountain on the northern tip of Hawai’i’s biggest island."  He goes on to share that "some liken Waimea’s green meadows, slanting rain, floating mists and rolling hills to vistas they’ve seen in the uplands of Scotland or New Zealand’s North Island. Hawai’i is the southern bookend of The Hawaiian Archipelago, described by Mark Twain to be “the most beautiful islands anchored in any ocean.” Kure atoll, the northern bookend."

A proud Waimea School alumni, "Uncle Bob," until rather recently, was a Trustee with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (since 2007), and has been a probation officer, organic farmer, Hawaiian activist, National Park Service ranger, State legislator, and worked 24 years with Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate in nine different capacities.  He also served on our Waimea Middle School Local Advisory Panel several years.

Lindsey has written six books and is currently working on a seventh.  This auction item features two - “Waimea I ka Lai” (which translates to Waimea In The Calm), and “With My Papa At Cowboy Pond.”

His books explore and share some of many lessons learned and “wistful words of wisdom for his four grandsons” and as “a Citizen of Planet Earth.”
