Maureen Murphy is well known with 43 years experience in the landscape industry and has owned her consulting, landscaping and tree care business for 30 years - all in Hawaii. She also has held several positions at NTBG including Senior Horticulturist.

Grown in NTBG's South Shore Garden Nursery, this native red hibiscus previously known as Hibiscus kahiliensis, this form is known from Mt. Kahili and the surrounding ridges. Can grow in full sun to partial shade. Needs some supplemental irrigation during dry summer months.

The climate-controlled fern lab and greenhouse facilities at the Conservation and Horticulture Center in the McBryde Garden currently produce over 10,000 plants per year.
