Handmade Necklace of Cowrie Shells, Coral and Black Beads

Item Number: 227
Time Left: CLOSED

Description
Beautifully crafted bib style necklace. Shiny black beads encircling coral beads and cowrie shells handsewn on a black fabric backing. The cowrie shells form a central flower inspired shape around more black beads and a turquoise imbedded medallion. We are not sure of the origin of the necklace but cowrie shells were used as a form of currency worldwide, and the shell symbolizes prosperity and destiny. (Similar items found online are identified as a design from Tibet/Nepal).
This necklace would be a fine addition to any wardrobe as well as being a conversation starter. The contrast of the coral and black beads against the white cowrie shells creates a brilliant statement.
Previously owned; very good condition
Each "arm" extends approximately 6", measured from bottom of necklace to where the cord attaches. Each "arm" is approximately 1 3/4" wide. Overall width is approximately 6 3/4" at widest part.
