This 1949 Mercury Custom model comes with a display case and features working spring suspensions, heavy die cast metal body, and detailed interior and chassis.  

Custom cars are 1949 and later models that have at least some minor styling modifications.  Customs are synonomous with "cool", a word that has never gone out of style.  Shaving the hood and trunk, frenching the license plates, and smoothing out the body by pulling the side chrome and door handles were popular custom features in the 1950s.  Chopping tops became more poular in the 1960s and 1970s.
