Ken and Susan Piters moved to their seventy-four acre Knights Valley ranch in 1987, and Petrified Forest Vineyards had its first harvest in 2009.

The mission—to create exceptional ultra-premium wines from the Knights Valley appellation by being uncompromising at all stages, from the vine to the bottle. The production would be limited so that the finest enological principles could be intensified.

The 2014 Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the high-elevation Totem Ridge Vineyard overlooking Knights Valley in east Sonoma County. The mountain fruit character of this wine opens with dazzling aromas of wild berries and blue fruits intermixed with accents of forest floor, espresso, raw tobacco, black pepper, cardamom, and roasted nuts. On the palate, the full-bodied flavors of black raspberry, blueberry, ripe plum and fresh currants are accented with nuances of wild sage, dark chocolate truffle, and a kiss of fine French oak on the long, dry finish.
