Description

Marshall Eddy is the grandfather of current student Seely Troffkin. Marshall retired from teaching art at MUHS five years ago. He began feeling a strong need to continue making art, so he started working at the Middlebury Studio School.

His medium is Red Art Clay and he finishes the sculptures with a process called "Terra Sigillata" which gives them a burnished look. Although he is influenced by
primitive art, he doesn't intentionally make copies. Rather, he lets his imagination take him where it wants to as the progress unfolds from piece to piece.

Recurring themes and subject matter are masks and animals, and often, as with this piece, he combines parts of different animals in one piece (fish tail, bird beak, turtle shell).

Each piece is unique, and since he doesn't sell them, each piece is also rare.
