Description

This Muscogee double wall basket measures 8.5 across and 5 tall, was crafted by hand dyed round reed. The colors red, yellow, black, and white are considered medicine colors and are featured in traditional ceremonies and art. The artist, Truman McCombs Maxey, is a citizen of the Muscogee Nation, Kaccvlke (panther clan) and is the grand-nephew of Native American artist Solomon McCombs, whose works have continued to inspire new generations of Native artists. Truman works for Svmpvt Omes (Muscogee for "its a basket") making commissioned baskets.
