Description

Tamed and Wild, 2021

Enjoy this beautiful Collagraphic monoprint by artist, Florence Alfano McEwin.
Tamed and Unwild is a unique collagraph of wild and cultivated rose vegetation 10" x 10", oil inks on Japanese unryu paper. This print is from a series of works playing with the 19th century tradition of flower pressing for remembrance and identification. The work is hand pulled with multiple runs through the press to achieve an evocative slightly embossed surface meshing hot house rose and wild shrub. The rose is one of the planet’s oldest flora and can represent celebration, memento or pure decoration with it’s beauty.

This work is beautifully and archivally presented in an off white frame to size.

About the Process:
Collagraph refers to a hand pulled print made with a raised inked surface, in this case the pressed hot house rose and wild shrub. Multiple runs through the press with additional inkings produce ghosts and counterprints. The final product has a slightly embossed surface-making it a collograph.

A traditional Collagraph refers to a combination of relief and print made on any flat surface using different textures. Usually, it is done by inking a plate with intaglio ink using a paintbrush, roller or some combination. The print on the board is made on paper or any other material with the help of a printing press or hand tools. The print is termed as Collagraph. Collagraph is also made using materials like sandpapers, textiles, cut card and leaves glued to the base and printed.
