Artist: Lorie Servinski

Lorie M. Servinski is blessed with creativity and showcases her talents through decorative Pysansky. Pysansky is the art of decorating eggs; an age old tradition in Ukraine that occurs during the Easter season.

Each egg's design and color have meaning. Examples include ribbons circling, meaning everlasting life, and triangles representing the trinity. Colors like blue represent skies, good health, truth and fidelity. Black signifies constancy or eternity. it is also believed that receiving a pysanska is not only a token of friendship, but also brings with it protection from harm.

The eggs are designed using a candle, beeswax, dyes and a tool called a Kistka, which disburses beeswax. The process involves tracing a pattern onto an egg using the Kistka. After wax is applied, the egg is soaked in dye. the egg is removed from the dye to dry. The process is repeated until the final design is achieved. The final steps to the process include removal of wax and egg yolk/whites follwed by a protective sealant.

Lorie learned the craft from her mentor Nell Hogue. The tradition of Pysanky has been pass on from generations of mothers to daughters who also share the craft with friends.
