"Popular" is one of the most "popular" songs in Stephen Schwartz's acclaimed score from the mega-hit musical Wicked, currently playing at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre. According to Kristin Chenoweth, who first sang the song as Glinda in the original 2003 cast, "Popular" was also the first song Stephen played for her when he asked her to consider becoming this new-fangled version of Glinda, the Good. Even though the book was unfinished and only a few songs had been written by that time, this clever and melodic tune that would become Glinda's anthem had Chenoweth hooked and onboard.
