Description

You are bidding on one bottle of 2018 Wild Thing Old Vine Zinfandel, Mendocino County, 14.5% alcohol.

CAROL SHELTON Wild Thing Old Vine Zinfandel Mendocino 2018: Winemaker Carol Shelton is widely cited as the most awarded winemaker in the United States. She has won countless medals for her wines and has been honored as Winemaker of the Year numerous times. After years of working with some of the industry's top winemakers and wineries, Carol continues to win awards and accolades for premium Zinfandels produced under her own brand, Carol Shelton Wines. She began by studying under industry giants Andre Tchelistcheff and Robert Mondavi, the grandfather and father of modern winemaking. She then led the winemaking team at Windsor Vineyards in the 1980s where she had the opportunity to bottle 45 different wines each year, ranging from Sparkling to Port, with Zinfandel coming up as her favorite wine time and time again. Her Old Vine Wild Thing Zin comes from the 65 year-old vines of the Sustainably Farmed and Organically Grown Cox Vineyard on the Mendocino hillsides, a very warm climate which produces deep, intense fruit. Fermented with only wild indigenous yeasts and blended with 14% Old Vine Carignane and 8% Petite Sirah, it's medium to fuller-bodied, smooth and juicy, with lots of ripe briary berries and spice, and a nice touch of vanillin oak on the creamy finish. 91 points from The Wine Spectator and 90 points from Wine Enthusiast. The 2018 vintage is shaping up as one of the finest of the decade.
