The Clam Shack and its adjoining seafood market have been a Kennebunkport staple for over 50 years. The fish market, originally known as Shackford and Gooch, began operations in the 1930s. In 1968, the small shack hanging over the Kennebunk River was rented on a handshake, and started serving its legendary takeout seafood. In 2000, current owner, Steve Kingston purchased the shack and seafood market with the promise that he would uphold the traditions of the iconic establishment.
