Description
This certificate entitles the holder to one session of adult lessons or youth sailing camp, offered by Canandaigua Community Sailing. All programs are held at the Canandaigua Yacht Club.
Adult lesson offerings include:
- Two-week adult learn-to-sail class: This class is taught in the evenings (Monday-Thursday) and uses Sunfish sailboats. You will learn how to competently and confidently sail a small boat including steering, sail trim, leaving and returning to the dock, reading the wind, righting a capsized boat and tying nautical knots.
- Two-week adult intermediate/advanced classes: This class is taught in the evenings (Monday - Thursday) and uses Sunfish sailboats as well as 420s. You will learn more advanced boat handling and sail trim skills and may explore other areas such as racing.
- US SAILING Keelboat adult class: This class is scheduled on-demand in small groups and uses a Capri 22. You will learn keelboat handling and more advanced seamanship skills. At the succesful conclusion of the course, you will recieve the US Sailing Keelboat certification.
Youth Sailing Camp:
- Introduce your kids between the ages of 7 and 18 to the wonderful sport of sailing. They will have lots of fun on the water while learning how to sail small sailboats, including how to rig the boat, steer, trim the sail, leave from and return to the dock, read the wind, and right a capsized boat. Classes run from 9AM-4PM, Monday through Friday, and early drop-off and late pick-up are available. Friday lunch is provided. A swim test is required. The instructor is US SAILING Level 1 certified. Sessions start after then end of school and run through mid-August.
