Stitching together fabric scraps and other previously loved fabrics, Mahelani Nishimura from Native Hawaiian Student Services upcycles and repurposes them for everyday use. This set features an 8 in (H) x11.5 in (W) Clutch, Front: Sig Zane fabric remnants, Back: upcycled denim, Inside: 100% cotton Tshirt. Also included in the set is a 3.5 in (H) x 5.5 in (W) coin purse also made with Sig Zane fabric (frontf) and upcycled denim (back), both have zipper closures and are easy to care for, machine washable, light iron as needed.


Mahealani Nishimura is the Administrative Officer for Native Hawaiian Student Services helping to manage their extramural funding as well as conducting Planner workshops for students and staff. Mahealani watched her grandmother and aunts sew May Day holoku for Keaukaha elementary school growing up in Hilo, Hawaii and attended her first formal sewing class her 5th grade summer. In efforts to be more mindful of Fast Fashion Waste sheʻs creatively creating items using scrap fabric from other projects and upcycling loved items and repurposing them into usable everyday items.
