Description
The high bidders wins two 2-person passes to dance -- freestyle -- in a creative community space in Berkeley.
Boogie is a Sunday night conscious dance in a casual, friendly environment where you can express yourself freely. It's an "ecstatic dance" with its own unique flavor that's been in existence since the mid-'80s. It's more than a workout or dance party -- it's a place to connect deeply to yourself and others.
There is no instruction, just a deejay who plays a great mix of music to encourage all kinds of movement and creative self-expression. On any given night at Barefoot Boogie, you'll hear a mix of great music, including Latin, African, Middle Eastern, funk, pop, R&B, hip-hop, house, blues, downtempo electronica, and electro-swing. You'll hear some things that are familiar, whether current radio hits or favorite "oldies," some that are new and unfamiliar, and some things that may even surprise you. You may find yourself dancing to things you never expected you'd dance to. There will be a variety of moods, tempos, and styles, with music that has heart and soul as well as beat.
You can dance alone, with a partner, or even with a group of people depending on the mood of the moment. Barefoot Boogie is a place where you can do your own dance in a creative, connected community space.
The format:
7:30-8:30pm -- the warm-up -- stretch, relax, do contact improv, or just unwind
8:30-9:30 (approx.) -- the pace is mainly uptempo
9:30-9:45 (approx.) -- a brief slower and more inward journey
9:45-10:30 -- mostly uptempo and then a slow, sweet ending
