Collection of nine travel and nature writings, edited by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Includes length biographical sketch of Thoreau by Emerson. First book to contain Thoreau's portrait -- which often ages its outline onto the title page. This edition was 1,558 copies, bound in at least four different colors of cloth. This one is in textured green with gilt letters on the spine. This volume has fabric tears at the head of the spine. A four-leaf clover is pressed inside the front cover.
