About: Ron S. Parker

Ron began painting as a career a little late in life. At age 35, he was inspired, after seeing an exhibition of original bird paintings by Fenwick Lansdowne, to try painting wildlife himself. His first effort was successful and he quit work at the lumberyard and began painting full time.

Using watercolors, a medium with which he was familiar, he began doing vignette paintings of birds and mammals. Within four months, he was selling originals through the Harrison Gallery in Vancouver, B.C.

Ron and his family now live in Victoria, after having lived in Comox on Vancouver Island and in Kimberley in the Kootenay Valley. The British Columbia coastline on Vancouver Island and the Rocky Mountains still provide the inspiration for his paintings.

Ron Parker on the Grey Wolf Portrait (Canis lupus):

"A light snowfall begins as an overcast sky casts a winter gloom over a snow covered meadow and group of evergreens.

The light facial fur of the gray wolf offers a contrast to the somber scene. Its eyes offer the only color.

This painting was actually inspired by a neighbor's malamute. I was fascinated by the beautiful textures and markings of its neck and facial fur. The direction and thickness of the fur defines, sculpts and shapes its features. The longer legged, big-footed wolf actually bears remarkable facial similarity to its domestic relative."
