Ostrich Egg, decorated in the Ukrainian Pysanky style.  The design is traditional Ukrainian geometric patterns with a twist - the personal twist of owls. If you look closely at the center of the circles there is a kestrel pattern.

Artist - Alison Abella.

About: Pysanky Egg Art

Using hot wax, the white space of the design is covered. Then the egg is dipped in light blue dye. Hot wax is used to cover the next layer of the design. This technique is followed by a medium blue, and finally in dark blue.   The wax is melted off revealing the final design. It gets sprayed with a clear coat and then 168 clear, blue, and grey Swarovski Crystals are added to catch the light.

About: Alison Abella

"I'm a working mom that comes from a large military family with roots back to the founding of this country. My mother was self-taught in a sewing, painting, gardening, entertaining, and cooking. It was hard to find something of my own until a teacher in middle school brought in a lady that showed us how to make Ukrainian eggs. As a wife and a mother of two with a full time job, I still try to find time for sewing, cooking, crafts, genealogy, and yes, I still do Ukrainian eggs."
