Focal cabochon is brecciate jasper, ornamented in carnelian, hematite, and glass beads. Hand beaded by local artisan Sabrina Bailey.

About: Brecciate Jasper

The word "jasper" is derived from the Greek word iaspi meaning "spotted stone". "Brecciate" comes from "breccia" a geological term used to identify rock composed of broken fragments cemented together into a fine-grained matrix. Brecciate jasper is simply fragments of different stone melded together. Brecciate Jasper can be considered a form of Red Jasper.
