"Arriving before sunrise, I set up my camera at one of the Burrowing Owlets favorite morning perches in Cape Coral, Florida. I was rewarded when the Owlets came out of the burrow and this one promptly flew onto the perch and started tilting his head from side to side as the sun was just starting to rise over a canal behind me. Owls tilt their heads to judge the position and distance of things around them especially in low-light. An owl’s eyes are fixed in position, so they can’t move their eyes like we can. To look to the side and up or down, an owl needs to move its head. This photo is a great reminder to look at things from a new perspective. If you look at a problem or situation with fresh eyes and a different point of view then you will often find the answer. These aowls are one of my favorite species to photograph and I invite you to enjoy this curious owlet nesting doll as a constant reminder to open your mind and learn to look at things in a different way.
