Hobo Quilt and Book.  The Hobo Book has 55 original blocks based on the secret language of riding the rails.  Hobo signs were their secret language; gave directions and advice to the savvy traveler.

The meanings of hobo signs reflect all sides of the transient life from the honorable to the unsavory.  Symbols used:  bad dog, food for work, be afraid, OK, unsafe area, beating awaits here, jail, work available talk religion get food, etc.
