Botany Study
Flower Sketches
Laura Sternik, Class 5
At the beginning of the year, Class 5 delved deeply into a botany study,
learning everything from the physiology and structure of the plant, to
photosynthesis and classification. They even conducted a study where
they planted sunflower seeds in the classroom and observed the growth
variance of each plant in relation to the moon’s cycle.
For this Class 5 offering, under the guidance of their teacher, Laura
Sternik, each child picked a favorite native wildflower and created a
sketch using colored pencil. The end result is a wonderfully vibrant
piece that is a testament to the children’s keen observation skills
and artistic talent; truly a celebration of the natural beauty that
surrounds us in Sonoma County.
