This jar contains pieces of varying sizes and shades of white, brown, green, aqua, and blue sea glass all gathered from the beaches of Martha's Vineyard.

Beach glass comes from glass bottles of different colors that find their way into oceans around the world. It takes about 30 years for the ocean to roll and soften glass pieces and then they become extraordinary colored pieces of stone. Clear glass is the most common, as are brown and green. The most prized, rare glass are orange and red.

Artists use beach glass to make art, jewelry, Christmas decorations, and more.

To increase the chances of finding beach glass, head to the beach around low tide. Sometimes the seaweed hides these nuggets!
