Gale Sayers was known for his elusiveness and agility and was regarded by his peers as one of the most difficult players to tackle. Nicknamed the "Kansas Comet", Sayers was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977 at age 34 and remains the youngest person to have received the honor.

John Riggins is known for his powerful running style and productivity well into the latter years of his career.  Although he had only one Pro Bowl appearance in his career, Riggins had his greatest success in the postseason, and was named the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XVII. Riggins was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992.
