This elegant calligraphy of the Japanese characters for Compassion was created and donated by the Rev. Kohtoku Hirao of Waimea Shingon Mission.
Rev. Hirao painted 900 versions of this calligraphy for the perfect one embracing the heart, spirit and soul of Compassion.
It is framed from the wood from the Hall of Compassion in Lawai.
The piece measures 13" X 16" overall, and master woodworker Ray Nitta of Waimea used Yellow Cedar wood to frame the work.
Note that the characters in this work are in horizontal format. Another work in this auction presents them in more traditional vertical format.
