Raku Turtle Vase by Javier Gaytan

Item Number: 1101
Time Left: CLOSED

Description
This item is a Raku Turtle Vase and measures 5" in diameter and 8 3/4" in height. The vase is an exclusive, one-of-a-kind, artistic rendition by local artist Javiar Gayton and can be used either functionally or as decorative art. It is a magnificent example of cutting edge art as well as demonstrating a mastery of 16th century art while applying ultra modern techniques.
This piece was hand thrown on the potters wheel ensuring you receive a quality, unique, hand-made piece. This work was fired in an outdoor kiln to 1800 F, then placed molten into a pit filled with palm fronds or coconut husk and engulfed in flames. It was then rapidly cooled to achieve vivid colors. The raku glaze and technique insure that this piece is one-of-a-kind. Several tools are used to achieve a pahoehoe lava texture or a rough a'a look.
