In was 1937 when Bing Crosby greeted the first fan through the gate as the Del Mar Race Track opened on July 3. About 15,000 turn out that afternoon. In the early days, Del Mar was a playground for Hollywood stars including: Dorothy Lamour, W. C. Fields, Edgar Bergen, Ava Gardner, Red Skelton, Lucille Ball, Desi Betty Grable, Mickey Rooney and Jimmy Durante. And, of course, the creators of the track Bing Crosby and Pat O’Brien. Since then the excitement hasn't stopped.
