Barbara Corrigan (1922-2012) was a life-long Attleboro resident and graduated from Mass College of Art & Design in 1944. She illustrated cookbooks, Yankee magazine covers and Highlights' magazine covers. Attleboro residents know Corrigan for her notecards which were copies of her well over 400 paintings. Corrigan exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum, Ainsworth Gallery, Alfred J. Walker Gallery, Copley Society, the Boston 350 Show and the Attleboro Arts Museum. Her work is held in private and corporate collections world-wide.
Surely this work was fun for Corrigan to paint! She certainly appreciated both the "Make Way for Ducklings" book and the interactive sculpture created by Nancy Schon. The sculpture was installed in 1987 in the Boston Common and has magnetic appeal with children of all ages.
This painting, in Corrigan's joyous style, spotlights a Boston icon that so many of us treasure!
