Monica DeSalvo is a mixed-media artist and designer living in Arlington, MA. She received her BFA from the UMass Dartmouth. She is a Core Artist at Fountain Street Gallery in SoWa Boston and was recently featured in "Juniper Rag" magazine. In 2021 DeSalvo was selected for the AAM's annual juried exhibition "8 Visions," and in 2022 her three-person show, "Into the Ether" was chosen as the winning proposal to exhibit at Nearby Gallery in Newton, MA. "Aerial Ferry" is a mixed media collage combining printmaking with paper memorabilia from her late father, a former aeronautics engineer. The piece pays homage to the dementia that he experienced at the end of his life. His fondness for structure and whimsy is represented by blending representational and abstract imagery on a background of vintage graph paper. The title and subject matter are inspired by his being jolted back to his time in the service at the end of WWII.
