Eileen Riley grew up in, Westport, MA where her backyard became her inspiration. She is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a concentration in sculpture. After college she spent time as a potter and artist mentor. She then settled into a five-year position as an art teacher at Bishop Stang High School. Ms. Riley continues to develop her craft and shows her work regularly at Gallery X and at Westport Art Group. She also does commissioned work of various kinds.
"Kindred" is an example of Ms. Riley's current work. It was created during a time of separation in the US, between blacks and whites. It was created in the artist's studio over the period of two weeks while working on various other projects. Ms. Riley is a multi-media artist working in both three-dimensional and two-dimensional arenas. This piece was made with scraps of specialty papers and mailings to the artist. The artist always puts a piece of herself into her work.
